The University of Pennsylvania will mark the 266th Commencement with a limited in-person undergraduate Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2022 at Franklin Field on the morning of Monday, May 16 at 10 a.m. Ken Burns, American documentary filmmaker and recipient of 16 Emmy Awards and 2 Academy Award nominations will deliver the address. 

At the Commencement ceremony, Burns will receive an honorary doctor of humane letters degree. Other 2022 Penn honorary degree recipients will be Mary Frances Berry, Atul Gawande, Amy Gutmann, Carla D. Hayden, George E. Lewis, Margaret H. Marshall, and Edward Witten.

Media Credentials

All media interested in covering Penn’s Commencement activities must be credentialed in advance. All requests should be made to Amanda Mott at no later than noon on Friday, May 13. 

Credentialed media (photographers, videographers, and reporters) will receive specific logistical information on or before Commencement before Friday, May 13 at 5 p.m. Please note, no field access is permitted all media will report from media pool.

Per COVID protocols all guests will be required to fill out PennOpen Campus to enter.
